While Caribbean cruises and vacations to the islands may give off an image of unattainable luxury because of the cruise liners, the resorts, and the beautiful crystal blue waters and fine sands of the beaches, some destinations can still be enjoyed by adventurous vacationers on a tight budget. The Caribbean has many islands, all with different features and offerings for all sorts of travelers. Some are great for luxurious getaways, while some are best for braving on a budget. Here are a few suggestions:
1. At the Virgin Islands, vacationers can tough it out a little and pitch a tent just a few feet away from a great view. Pick either the island of Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands or St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands for cottages, platform tents, and campsites with tent rentals ranging from $20 to a little over $150.
2. The trick to getting a good deal at Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, meanwhile, is to sacrifice a little. There are many all-inclusive resorts that are competing to attract tourists so the rates are very competitive. However, a resort near a great beach with a good price may have less attractive rooms.
3. For scuba divers, Bonaire is the recommended destination. Here, certified divers can just go to a beach, suit up, and swim out to some of the beginner-level dive sites near the shore. No need for boat rentals and guides!
4. Dominica, a volcanic island with a lush jungle, is great for adventurers. The resorts, meanwhile, have reasonable rates and vacationers can expect prices of around $130 – $200 per night.
